- you can't host more than 300 people for an online tournament
- you can't charge for online tournaments

like dude this is like......hateful towards a community that did nothing but play their games LMAO
From what I've gathered through various channels of scuttlebutt is that while they put their friendly execs and creators forward when it comes to game conferences, press releases, etc, the actual board of the company are largely old, totally out of touch businessmen who are ruthlessly litigious and protective of the brand. They take the customer base as a given constant and are totally disconnected from the reality of those customers and how and why the brand has its base to begin with. They don't understand the use of their product in a tournament setting and don't care to learn. It's just another aberration and threat.
that is so insane nintendo board die challenge
I feel that people have widely forgotten that Nintendo have been trying to control their IP being used by content creators for years now.
In 2017 they tried to prevent YouTubers streaming their games:
I can’t find an older source for it but I’m sure I also remember around the same time as the streaming thing the Let’s Play community - even those who didn’t livestream- talk about stopping all Nintendo content on their channels because Nintendo had started to copyright strike their channels and it wasn’t worth the risk or loss of money:
Even as far back as 2013 they have been putting their own ads on videos to divert ad revenue from content creators:
So yeah tl:dr I’m not even remotely surprised they’ve thought of some new thing to get in a tantrum about…
